Sustainability
The chemical industry aims to be a responsible pioneer, proactive and solution-oriented actor.
Our objective is to achieve a nature-positive and carbon-neutral chemical industry.
The chemical industry’s voluntary sustainability program, Responsible Care, has been guiding the industry’s sustainability efforts in Finland for over 30 years. The results have been significant. For example, accidents have decreased by 91% since 1988, energy consumption by 20% since 1995, water consumption by 60% since 1995, and greenhouse gas emissions by 32% since 1999.
Our goal is a nature-positive and carbon-neutral chemical industry.
Responsible CareThe international Responsible Care program of the chemical industry has been active in Finland for over 30 years. The results of sustainability efforts are monitored through annually compiled indicator data, the outcomes of which are presented on this website.
Nature-Positive and Carbon-Neutral ChemistryOur objective is a nature-positive and carbon-neutral chemical industry in Finland by 2045. Learn more about our goal and the work undertaken to achieve it.
Effective and Self-Driven AnticipationResponsible Care helps companies, among other things, develop their skills in anticipation and preparedness, as well as measure the complex safety environment. This creates the capability to develop more sustainable and safer processes and products.
Data-Driven SustainabilityWithout data, it would be impossible to assess sustainability and its development. Data should be accessible and reporting purposeful, forward-looking, and flow through the entire value chain. Responsible Care offers companies a comprehensive reporting package.
Diverse Work LifeIn the chemical industry, the materials and energy utilized are aimed to be maximally leveraged for efficiency.
