Neste: Neste explores replacing crude oil with waste plastics
Neste is exploring chemical recycling of plastic and the use of liquefied waste plastic as a raw material in the production of fuels, chemicals and new plastics. The target is to develop capabilities to process more than one million tons of plastic waste annually by 2030.
In Europe, some 27 million tons of post-consumer plastic waste is generated annually. Only about one third of this amount is currently collected for recycling and even less than that actually recycled. Neste's development project exploring liquefied waste plastics as a replacement for crude oil aims is to proceed to an industrial scale trial during the upcoming months.
