Arizona Chemical: Benefits from pine oil
Pine oil is a renewable natural substance derived from wood pulp as a by-product in cellulose manufacture. It is used in many everyday products, such as paints, glues, lubrication agents, vehicle tyres, printing colours, cosmetics, cleaning agents, perfumes, foodstuffs and diapers.
One of the most important users of pine oil is Arizonal Chemical, which has customers all over the world. Saving natural resources is currently one of its key goals.
− It is important to make full use of the forestry value chain. Pine oil is obtained as a residue in cellulose manufacture, so not a single tree is felled only because we need raw material, says Managing Director Jonas Liimatta.
As raw material, pine is also environmentally friendly. The carbon dioxide emissions of the Oulu plant, for example, are about 80 000 tons a year, which is only one fourth of the emissions caused by corresponding oil-based raw materials.
